This month Charles Spelina is taking on three major events for DRWF, including the London Marathon, to raise lots of money in aid of the charity. So far more than £4,100 has been pledged to support the long distance runner, and with your support that
This weekend he will head to France for the Paris Marathon (26.2 miles) on 15th April, before returning to England for the London Marathon (26.384 miles) on 22nd April. In total he is set to cover 87.384 miles for DRWF in just one month.
The first of these was one of the toughest he is set to face all year – the 34.8 mile Two Oceans Marathon in South Africa on 7th April.
I am delighted to have completed my longest run yet, injury free!” said Charles afterwards. The race was tough as it included steep hills (Chapman’s Peak and Constantia Neck), and conditions were not ideal either, as there was pouring rain throughout. But that didn’t stop Charles as he completed the course in an impressive 4 hours 41 minutes.
Among the extraordinary sights on the course included a man running the whole 35 miles barefoot, another as a porcupine and a brass band happily supporting the runners at the top of the final hill despite the weather.
Throughout 2012 Charles has a gruelling schedule lined up as he bids to run marathons from Marrakech in January, to Las Vegas in December.
“I have chosen to run for this charity as my brother is diabetic,” said Charles.
