This year DRWF decided to hol
d their annual Diabetes Wellness Weekend a bit closer to home in the beautiful
setting of New Place, situated in the Hampshire countryside.
All aspects of diabetes health care were covered over the weekend and Consultant Physician, Dr Andrew Brooks from the Royal Hampshire County Hospital kicked off with an introduction to diabetes. This was followed by an update on islet cell transplantation by Paul Johnson, director of the DRWF Human Islet Isolation Facility, Churchill Hospital, Oxford.
Other highlights included Azmina Govindji with a talk about Glycaemic Index and a mouth-watering cookery demonstration and Diabetes Specialist Nurses Lisa Skinner and Kate Marsden from Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth, who joined Consultant Physician, Iain Cranston to take an hour long question and answer session.
The weekend activities also included a spooky Halloween meal on Saturday evening rounded off with a sp
ecial DRWF raffle.
As a wind down on the Monday morning, delegates got the chance to learn about alternative therapies such as Indian Head Massage, Reiki, Aqua Massage and Healing.
DRWF would like to thank all delegates and exhibitors for attending.
