DRWF World Diabetes Day coffee morning

DRWF marked World Diabetes Day on Friday 14 November by holding a World Diabetes Day coffee morning in order to help raise awareness and support people with the condition.

The coffee morning ran from 9.30am - 1pm in Bedhampton, Hampshire and was attended by many people who were eager to learn more about their diabetes and how to better manage their condition.

Attendees were offered information and a friendly chat from the DRWF team on the support services the charity offers and an opportunity to visit the various exhibitors offering an array of diabetes related products and services.

DSN Kate Marsden from the local Hospital, Queen Alexandra in Portsmouth was also there to offer individual medical advice to attendees on all aspects of diabetes related care.

Sarah Bone, CEO, DRWF UK, says, “As a charity supporting people with diabetes we were keen to raise awareness to World Diabetes Day (WDD) on 14th November. DRWF worked collaboratively with other diabetes groups in the UK to strengthen the voice of the Unite for Diabetes campaign through WDD by encouraging key landmarks to show their support by ‘lighting up in blue’.

The global increase in diabetes means it’s vital to ensure that every person with diabetes or at risk of the condition, has the best quality education, information and care available. To this end, DRWF held a World Diabetes Day Coffee morning in Havant, close to the DRWF offices.

It was a great opportunity to raise awareness to WDD and let the local community know of the support and information offered by the charity."

Locally in Hampshire, the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth was lit up blue to mark World Diabetes Day as part of the International Diabetes Federation’s (IDF) monument challenge.

This year over 1000 monuments across the world were lit blue to mark the day.
