Mother and daughter team, Jean and Melanie Ginn, will be 
venturing into Germany to undertake a 400-mile walk along the River Rhine to raise money for DRWF in early June.
The trek will take around 10 weeks in total and the route will take in both the Rheinsteig and Rheinburgenweg trails. The Rheinstag trail runs along the right bank of the river Rhine between Bonn, Koblenz und Wiesbaden along predominantly narrow paths and challenging inclines. The Rheinburgenweg trail follows the left side of the Rhein from Bingen to Koblenz.
‘This is something we have been planning for several months now and have chosen the charity Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation (DRWF) as this is close to our hearts. My sister Laura is type 1 diabetic and was diagnosed with diabetes 19 years ago so the condition has been a part of our lives for a very long time’, Melanie said.
The ladies' plan is to walk around 10 – 15kms a day and they will be staying in youth hostels or very basic hotels to keep their costs down. They would like to emphasise that all costs for this trip will be 100 percent funded by themselves and will not impact in any way on donations received.
‘We will be taking just a basic backpack with very few essentials (hair straighteners are a must). Neither of us are ones for being without our home comforts so this is a HUGE personal challenge for us which we are relishing. Please bear this in mind when donating to this important charity.
