DRWF London 10K runners raise over £3000

posted: 13/07/2010 12:25:00

The DRWF jolly joggers are celebrating completing the British London 10K run on Sunday 11th July and raising a combined total of just over £3,000 for the charity. Monies are still coming in.

One DRWF runner, Claire Fleming, Diabetic Retinopathy Programme Manager for NHS Portsmouth, was running with fellow supporters Katie Hovenden and Helen Williams throughout the race.

She said, 'We had already agreed to stick together throughout the entire race. My clever watch-gadget gave our total time of 1 hour 15 mins and 45 seconds - this did include a 9 minute queue for the toilets just after half way, and so total running time was 1 hour 6 mins. We passed the finish line, holding hands, on their clock time of 1 hour and 21 mins.

It was an amazing experience and we were overwhelmed by the sea of runners both queuing and running. The sound of the 'oggy, oggy, oggy' chant as we passed through the tunnel will stick with me for some time too.'

Dr Shiv Pande who was wearing his vest stating loud and proud 'Still running at 70', finished the race in 1 hour and fifty minutes. He was met by friends and family at the finish line who toasted his efforts with champagne. Shiv has raised an individual total of over £1,700 for the charity.

Alan Priddy reported that he finished the race in 70 minutes and Mark and Jack Tutton finished the race in 52 minutes and 47 minutes respectively.

DRWF would like to extend their congratulations and thanks to all runners who took part this year.

Sarah Bone, CEO, said, 'It was wonderful to see our 18 runners take part in the Asics London 10K on Sunday. The atmosphere was fantastic. The team donned their running gear to support DRWF in our fundraising activities and raise awareness to the charity and its work.

All were enthusiastic participants and the sponsorship monies are coming in thick and fast. We truly appreciate their support and commitment to our cause. My thanks and that of all the DRWF staff go to our fabulous runners who ranged in age from 18 to 70+! A big cheer and many thanks to you all!'
