Research Advisory Board - Dr Paul Squires
Dr Paul Squires is a Reader in Diabetes & Endocrinology and was previously an Associate Professor at the University of Warwick and a previous Diabetes UK, RD Lawrence Research Fellow (King’s College London).
A physiologist by training, his research is centred on elucidating sub-cellular mechanisms that regulate insulin secretion and insulin action. A common avenue for both projects is the role of cell-to-cell communication in synchronising function between cells of the pancreatic islet, or renal nephron.
Trained at the University of Sheffield, Dr Squires is a recipient of the Paul Langerhans Award for Research on the Physiology and Pathophysiology of the beta-cell, awarded by the European Association for the Study of Diabetes and spent 3years at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver as a Royal Society Travelling Research Fellow and Honorary Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Fellow. Paul is a current member of the Research Advisory Panel for Diabetes UK and a member of the Warwickshire Institute for the Study of Diabetes, Endocrinology & Metabolism (WISDEM).
