Summary:

This project will examine a previously unexplored area of insulin secretion. Understanding the mechanisms of insulin secretion is of prime importance for the treatment and potential cure of both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
It is essential to have a complete understanding of the mechanism of insulin secretion if future therapies for Type 1 diabetes are to be successful. Knowledge of the molecular control of insulin secretion is also essential for understanding beta cell dysfunction in Type 2 diabetes.
