What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a scheme set up by the Government which allows charities such as DRWF to reclaim tax already paid by UK taxpayers on donations they make. We can claim back from the Inland Revenue the basic rate tax you paid when you earned the money you donated to us. This means that for every £1 you give us, we can claim an extra 25p back from the taxman - and it won’t cost you any extra at all!

Three simple Gift Aid rules

For us to benefit from the Government’s Gift Aid scheme there are three simple conditions:

1. We must have your permission to claim back the tax paid on your donations to DRWF.
2. You must be a UK tax payer.
3. The amount you pay in income tax or capital gains tax in a given financial year must be at least equal to the amount we will reclaim in the same year.

Do I have to give my permission every time I donate?

You only need to give us your permission once and we will be able to treat all your future gifts as Gift Aid donations, whether they are small or large, one-off gifts or regular payments. And if you have donated in the past but did not sign a Gift Aid declaration at the time, with your permission we can go back to any donation you may have made since 6 April 2000 and reclaim the tax!

Basic rate of tax

*The recent reduction in the basic rate of income tax to 20% has reduced the amount of Gift Aid that charities can claim on donations from 6th April 08 to 25%. The Government has however recognised that this change could mean significant reductions in income for some charities. With this in mind, HMRC will continue to 'top-up' the difference to 28p in the £1 for the next 3 years. This helping hand will enable charities to put procedures in place to minimise the impact this change may have.
