The Midlands like the rest of the country is affected by the rising number of people living with diabetes, which is undeniably a ticking timebomb for the NHS with more than 5 million people now diagnosed in the UK. It is regarded as a rapidly escalating crisis.

United Through Diabetes will feature insights into the latest DRWF funded research which includes the ground-breaking work of the Human Islet Isolation Facility in Oxford and pioneering advances by scientists across the country.

A showcase of the latest technology including Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) being made available for people living with type 2 diabetes via Dexcom. Plus, information on Abbott who will have information on their FreeStyle Libre 2 Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) real time system for people living with type 1 diabetes.

Jake Leach, Chief Executive of Dexcom, said: “CGM can make a huge impact to the cost of living with diabetes by reducing hospital stays, reducing severe hypoglycaemia and long-term complications, all those things can be significantly reduced because CGM is so beneficial and helpful in managing glucose. It's a very cost-effective solution.”
