The Diabetes Wellness Day South will bring together a wealth of information under one roof for people living with all forms of diabetes. Family members, friends and carers and those with an interest in diabetes are also encouraged to take part. The day will provide you with the tools, knowledge and practical skills needed to improve life with diabetes and the keys to healthier living. The day is designed to ensure all participants have the opportunity to raise their questions, share their experiences and enjoy the support of a friendly, like-minded diabetes community in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
Each year we work together with our NHS colleagues to provide a programme that focuses on the many key areas that affect people living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This year’s programme will be announced soon and, once again, the talks we choose will run as satellite sessions and be repeated throughout the day, giving everyone the chance to take part in the sessions that interest them the most.
The vibrant exhibition room will form the hub of the day, giving you the opportunity and flexibility to spend as much time as you like visiting the stands and chatting with a variety of experts and healthcare professionals who will be on hand to offer advice on diet, health, lifestyle and the latest blood-glucose meters and diabetes related products and services.
In addition to the programme of talks and exhibition area, we will also have activities for families and some fun exercise sessions. We will be joined by the team from Portsmouth and Fareham Healthy Walks, who will lead some short walks around the Solent Hotel’s private grounds and the local Whiteley trim trails, whilst explaining the benefits of this gentle and effective form of exercise.
Pilot Douglas Cairns, author of the book Flying With Diabetes, who has type 1 diabetes will perform a special fly past for us in his two-seat Vans RV8 aerobatic display aircraft that has been used for diabetes awareness-raising speed records and diabetes fund-raising events *Subject to weather.
As always DRWF is able to subsidise the cost of attendance as part of the charity’s annual educational event programme. We only ask for a small registration fee of £5 per person, to help us with the costs. The registration fee includes the full programme of talks and activities, access to the exhibition hall, all-day refreshments, a hot sit down lunch and free parking.
