Once again the Diabetes Wellness Day North will take place in November to coincide with World Diabetes Day. This special day is celebrated worldwide each year and engages millions of people in raising diabetes awareness. World Diabetes Day was created in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and World Health Organisation. In 2007 it became an official United Nations day. The date of 14th November for World Diabetes Day was chosen to recognise the birthday of Frederick Banting, who along with Charles Best, first conceived the idea which led to the discovery of insulin in 1922.

The Diabetes Wellness Day North will bring together a wealth of information under one roof for people living with all forms of Diabetes. Family members, friends and carers and those with an interest in diabetes are also encouraged to take part. The day will provide you with the tools, knowledge and practical skills needed to improve life with diabetes and the keys to healthier living. The day is designed to ensure all participants have the opportunity to raise their questions, share their experiences and enjoy the support of a friendly, like-minded diabetes community in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
Each year we work together with our NHS colleagues to provide a programme that focuses on the many key areas that affect people living with diabetes. This year’s programme will be announced soon.
As well as the talks we will have a vibrant exhibition area, giving you the opportunity to visit the stands and chat with a variety of experts and healthcare professionals who will be on hand to offer advice on diet, health, lifestyle and the latest blood-glucose meters and diabetes related products and services.
DRWF is able to subsidise the cost of attendance as part of the charity’s annual educational event programme. We ask for a registration fee of £5 per person, to help with the costs of running the event. The registration fee includes the full programme of talks and activities, access to the exhibition hall, all-day refreshments, lunch and free parking.
