DRWF are delighted to be returning to Hartlepool for the 9th annual Diabetes Wellness Day North on Saturday, 9th November 2019.

Join DRWF and the specialist diabetes teams from North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, the University Hospital of Hartlepool and Hartlepool Borough Council at this Quality in Care Diabetes award winning event.

Hartlepool’s Maritime Experience is the ideal setting with its unique charm and welcome hospitality. Its central location makes it easily accessible to people from across the North East region, and with more than 200 free parking spaces, Hartlepool town centre within walking distance, and nearby bus, taxi and train stations we couldn’t be in a better location.

Once again the Diabetes Wellness Day North will take place in November to coincide with World Diabetes Day. This special day is celebrated worldwide each year and engages millions of people in raising diabetes awareness. World Diabetes Day was created in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and World Health Organisation. In 2007 it became an official United Nations day. The date of 14th November for World Diabetes Day was chosen to recognise the birthday of Frederick Banting, who along with Charles Best, first conceived the idea which led to the discovery of insulin in 1922.

The Diabetes Wellness Day North will bring together a wealth of information under one roof for people living with all forms of Diabetes. Family members, friends and carers and those with an interest in diabetes are also encouraged to take part. The day will provide you with the tools, knowledge and practical skills needed to improve life with diabetes and the keys to healthier living. The day is designed to ensure all participants have the opportunity to raise their questions, share their experiences and enjoy the support of a friendly, like-minded diabetes community in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

"Wonderful to meet other people with diabetes either on insulin, tablets and diet all coping so well and leading normal lives. The various speakers and professionals were all determined to educate and help us in many ways. I learned all about portion sizes from the dietitian, how to do my daily foot check and how dogs can detect glucose levels and help people having hypos. Everyone was so helpful. Thank you for a lovely and very informative day."

- Mrs E. Bailey, Middlesbrough

Each year we work together with our NHS colleagues and local healthcare providers to put on a programme that focuses on the many key areas that affect people living with diabetes. This year’s programme will be announced soon.

In addition to the talks we will have a vibrant exhibition area, giving you the opportunity to visit the stands and chat with a variety of experts and healthcare professionals who will be on hand to offer advice on diet, health, lifestyle and the latest blood-glucose meters and diabetes related products and services.

DRWF is able to subsidise the cost of attendance as part of the charity’s annual educational event programme. We ask for a registration fee of £5 per person, to help with the costs of running the event. The registration fee includes the full programme of talks and activities, access to the exhibition hall, all-day refreshments, lunch and free parking.

We have a fantastic day planned, and would love for you to join us for the Diabetes Wellness Day North in Hartlepool on Saturday, 9th November
