Free Type 1 Diabetes Family Camp - Postponed

Whitemoor Lakes, Staffordshire
10:00, May 08, 2020

DRWF and Over The Wall bring you a two-night residential activity camp for families of children living with Type 1 Diabetes.

This event recognises the challenges that type 1 diabetes places on the whole family and offers an opportunity for bonding, SERIOUS FUN and friendship. Applications are accepted from families with child/children aged 0-17, however one child must be aged 8-17, as camp is specifically designed for this age range.
Camps are entirely FREE – all accommodation, food and activities are supplied by the charities.

“It was so good to compare our challenges, the way we dealt
with them and how our kids responded. My Type 1 child had a wonderful weekend” - Parent

Camp is about making connections with other families in a similar situation, making new friends and having fun. You will be encouraged to try a range of activities including for example*: high ropes, abseiling, climbing, arts and crafts together as a family. Resilience and confidence will see you conquer your fears and try something new. Our volunteers are experienced in looking after you and your family and will be there to look after the young campers when the adults have the chance to have some ‘me’ time or participate in adult focussed activities. Parents are required to participate in camp with their families and join in the magic, volunteers are there to provide support, not to take responsibility for the campers.

We also have medical and nursing staff who have experience in dealing with a huge variety of paediatric conditions, and they will be there the whole weekend to offer their support. We try very hard to keep the medical aspects of
camp as low profile as possible: camp is about trying new things, sharing experiences and having fun.
All of our activities are intentionally designed to help foster a sense of achievement and we take great pride in ensuring that every one of our campers leave camp feeling more resilient, confident, energised and positive than when they arrived!
