The countdown is almost complete. As we have one more sleep to go until the first United Through Diabetes event.

DRWF has partnered with the organisers of Diabetes Professional Care (DPC2020), the UK’s leading national diabetes annual event for healthcare professionals, to provide an innovative virtual conference.

The new first-of-its-kind event is entitled United Through Diabetes and will be held on World Diabetes Day – Saturday, 14th November from 9.30am to 5pm.

Registration for the event is open now here *

DRWF has been unable to hold our highly successful award-winning regional Diabetes Wellness Days across the country due to the Covid-19 pandemic this year.

DRWF Event Coordinator Lee Calladine said: “We have worked so hard to create this fantastic online event for people living with diabetes, family members, care givers and diabetes healthcare professionals. We hope you'll join us and get as much support, information and fun out of it as we have planned for you.”

Our mission is to help give you the confidence, knowledge, and tools you need to take control of your own health and diabetes journey.

What will you learn?

  • Top tips to help you manage your diabetes
  • Find out what support is available from the NHS and charities
  • Hear from other people living with diabetes around the UK
  • Share your experiences with others in a safe space
  • Learn about your diabetes and related conditions

Sarah Tutton, DRWF Chief Executive, said: “I am so pleased that we have found a way to engage with the many people who look forward to attending our regional Diabetes Wellness Days each year. This is very different for us. We are very excited about the online platform which enables us to widen our reach of the diabetes community. Participants will see live panel sessions and pre-recorded presentations from leading diabetes specialists as well as the opportunity to view cookery demonstrations and try some simple exercise, hear personal stories and chat with the speakers.”

The United Through Diabetes day is aimed at anyone living with diabetes, family, friends and carers to learn more about all forms of diabetes and understand more about good self-care and the latest treatments available.

Maggie Meer, founder of DPC, added: “For a number of years I have been approached by other people with diabetes who recognise my passion for providing education and valuable information to people living with diabetes.  I am delighted that we are in a position this year to launch United Through Diabetes in partnership with DRWF, and believe that our efforts will go a long way to ensuring that the lives of people living with diabetes will be enhanced through the education on offer and will enable them to better manage their conditions.”

World Diabetes Day

World Diabetes Day was created in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization in response to growing concerns about rising new diagnoses of diabetes globally.

World Diabetes Day takes place every year on 14th November, the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin along with Charles Best in 1921 - first used in treatment of diabetes in 1922.

The theme for World Diabetes Day 2020 is The Nurse and Diabetes.

This year’s campaign aims to raise awareness around the crucial role that nurses play in supporting people living with diabetes.

Worldwide events coincide with annual day – including DRWF and DPC’s United Through Diabetes virtual conference on Saturday, 14th November.
