Decked out in colourful red wigs and DRWF t-shirts the Diabetes Dragons made a splash at the annual Portsmouth and Southsea Rotary Dragon Boat Festival, and raised more than £700 for the charity.

With 23 adult teams competing at the event held recently at Lakeside in Cosham, near Portsmouth, there was a great deal of competition.

The Diabetes Dragons team was made up of Hayling Island-based Langstone Gig rowers and DRWF staff.

The team was determined to bag a place in the final with a great time. However, their best time of 1 minute, 6 seconds was unfortunately not quite fast enough, despite there being just six seconds separating the DRWF team from the fastest boat.

Claire Levy, DRWF Community Fundraiser, said: “Everyone had a fantastic day in the lovely sunshine, which made the day especially enjoyable.

“The team has raised around £700 with the promise of more funds to come in - and fingers crossed we hope the total could rise to more than £1,000 overall.

“Thank you to Portsmouth and Southsea Rotary for another well organised and profitable day. We look forward to 2018!”
