Third annual event held in Warwickshire is busiest yet.
DRWF returned to the Midlands recently for the third annual Diabetes Wellness Day at Chesford Grange in Kenilworth, Warwickshire.
DRWF teamed up with specialist diabetes teams from Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust for the Quality in Care Diabetes award winning event.
Dr Parijat De, Clinical Lead for Diabetes, and Joanne Lloyd, Diabetes Specialist Nurse, at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust supported the day again - this year hosting an interactive Question Time session.
The theme was highs and lows in blood glucose levels, those unusual and unwanted highs, what cause them, how to treat them and ways to manage them. The diabetes burn out that comes from living with these changes day to day was also discussed.
The day also featured a Yoga and Laughter session led by yoga teacher and inspirational speaker, Pam Medhurst. The session focused on using this gentle exercise and the power of laughter to promote personal health and wellbeing.
Those who arrived early were invited to join a special focus group over breakfast with our colleagues from Urgo Medical, who are launching a new patient-centric campaign in 2020 and invited delegates to provide feedback.
Throughout the day there was a busy and buzzing exhibition area with a mix of experts from across the diabetes industry.
For the closing session of the day Wellbeing Consultant Wendy Palmer-Grove lead an interactive talk and activity session to help us further explore the power of breathing and mindfulness, which helps support the mental wellbeing and aid the daily management of living life with a long-term health condition such as diabetes.
Special thanks to the DRWF team and volunteers, Pauline Mathers, Lionel Curtis and Lynwood Newman, and of course Captain Insulin.
