Revolve Comics

Dr Mayank Patel and Professor Partha Kar have collaborated with Danny Mcgloughlin at Revolve Comics, graphic artist Jim Lavery and people living life with type 1 diabetes, a magic mix of experience to bring this series of unique educational resources and stories to life.

Danny from Revolve Comics said: “It is our hope that these stories will inform and educate anyone who reads them. For those readers who are newly diagnosed, they will hopefully feel more empowered to look after themselves if not already. It is possible to live a long, healthy life with type 1 diabetes.”

Dr Patel said "So different people respond to being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in different ways, some like to talk it through, with others preferring to read books and leaflets to learn more. We were inspired by the work of Stan Lee and how he engaged so many young people with comics that would explore many issues in a fun way. This series provides a means of spreading the type 1 diabetes message by using graphic art."

There are five comic books in the series so far, and hopefully more to come, so watch this space. Visit the Revolve website below to download your free copies of...

  • Type 1: Origins
  • Type 1: Attack of the Ketones
  • Type 1: Mission 3: S.T.I.G.M.A
  • Type 1: Generations
  • Diabetes Secret Wards

Since its release in 2016 the first Type 1 comic has been downloaded over 10,000 times worldwide and was awarded the Diabetes Collaboration Initiative of the Year title at the Sanofi Quality in Care Diabetes awards.
