Branding update for insulin pens

Users of insulin pens to check packaging as Embecta announce product branding update.

Diabetes insulin pen manufacturer Embecta has announced an update to its product names and packaging across its pen needle portfolio.

A statement from Embecta said: “While the appearance and branding has changed, the product itself remains the same high-quality needle that patients know and trust.

“For example, prescriptions should now specify Embecta Micro-Fine Ultra 4mm or Viva 4mm rather than using “BD”.

“To help ensure continuity of supply, patients are encouraged to check that their repeat prescriptions have been updated to reflect the new Embecta product names.”

The clarification statement came following some people being told that their prescriptions were no longer valid and that the needles they have been using were no longer available. However, the product is still available, just under a different brand, Embecta and not BD.
