DRWF joined NHS Type 2 Prevention Programme teams during events throughout Hampshire and Portsmouth.

DRWF recently joined teams from the NHS Type 2 Prevention Programme, managed and run by Xyla Health and Wellbeing, at community events throughout the week 20-24 May to raise awareness about type 2 diabetes.

Three community events were hosted by Xyla Health and Wellbeing in Havant, Bedhampton and Portsmouth as part of a type 2 diabetes prevention programme.

DRWF attended the events to provide diabetes information and resources.

Lee Calladine, DRWF Events Co-ordinator, said: “What an amazing week, working with dedicated colleagues across the Portsmouth region to raise awareness and provide information and support about the causes, symptoms and treatments of type 2 diabetes.

“We had a lovely time meeting members of the public out in the community for Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Week. A big thank you to Clare Kavanagh and her team at Xyla Health and Wellbeing for all their efforts and for inviting us to take part.”

The community events were part of Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Weekthe joint campaign from NHS England and Diabetes UK.

There are 13.6 million people in the UK at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. But for many people there are steps to take to reduce the risk.

Claire Kavanagh of Xyla Health said: “If someone is at moderate to high risk and blood glucose levels show they are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes, then they may be eligible for referral to their local Healthier You NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme.

“Our Healthier You groups for the evidence-based lifestyle change programme which helps people at risk of type 2 diabetes to reduce their risk through managing their weight, eating more healthily and being more physically active are running well across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.”

Representatives from Xyla Health and Wellbeing will attend the upcoming DRWF United Through Diabetes event.

United Through Diabetes takes place at Chesford Grange, Kenilworth, Warwickshire on Saturday, 21st September. More information and registration here
