Educating Families. Empowering Pupils. Benefitting Schools.

The annual Dance for Diabetes event has been extremely successful, raising more than £75,000 in just four years for participating schools and DRWF.

This year proved to be another success, with £26,729.95 raised to support DRWF activities, in addition to a share of the money being shared with primary schools.

This year 18 primary schools took part in the event, in Portsmouth and surrounding areas, with one school registering in Leicester.

Since the campaign was launched Hampshire-based schools have shared more than £30,000 between them as a direct result of our pledge to donate 40p of every £1 raised back to the schools.

To coincide with this year’s Dance for Diabetes, DRWF is pleased to publish two new educational resources on:

Schools received a host of readymade classroom resources supported by a step-by-step and simple to follow dance video, choreographed to a well-known pop song by Hampshire-based afterschool provider, FunKidz Dance Ltd.

At the start of the Summer Term and for the following six weeks through to the performance week, on 19th–23rd May, schools were asked to show the video in classes for around 5 minutes, 2–3 times a week.

This helped to familiarise pupils with the dance, foster pupil togetherness and increase engagement in readiness for a whole school performance and non-school uniform day at the end. During this time, pupils took home a pre-packed welcome letter and sponsorship pack allowing them to gain sponsorship for their efforts.

Tim Green, Head of Community Fundraising at DRWF, said: “We are absolutely thrilled with the success of this year’s Dance for Diabetes campaign and the incredible support shown by schools, pupils, and families. Raising more than £26,000 is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the power of community coming together for a cause that affects so many. Not only are these funds vital for advancing diabetes research, but the campaign also provides essential educational resources that help young people understand the importance of healthy living and diabetes awareness. We are proud to partner with Funkidz Dance Ltd and to support schools with a share of the funds raised – a true win-win for everyone involved.”
