Growing number of walkers join DRWF for our annual seafront Dawdle event.

DRWF was pleased to welcome more than 70 walkers to the Diabetes Dawdle recently, making it our biggest seafront stroll to date.

The annual walk along the historic Southsea seafront helped raise £4,282.51 towards providing people living with diabetes access to the information and resources they need.

Our flagship Portsmouth Dawdle event offered a choice from two fully signed coastal routes of either 4 or 7 miles.

Participants met at the walk starting point at Spice Island pub at Old Portsmouth, where they also enjoyed some welcome refreshments on completing their chosen course in the function room at the pub, with all hospitality very generously provided by Spice Island.

Walkers included groups of friends, family members and charity supporters – some whose canine pets joined in for the morning, taking in sights, from the historic dockyard to the South Parade and Clarence piers along newly improved coastal pathways.

All participating walkers were provided with a red DRWF T-shirt and many took advantage of a discounted ice cream available en route, kindly offered by Beaches & Cream on Eastney Esplanade.

By pledging to raise money, those taking part help DRWF to fulfil charity goals to support children, young people and their families across the UK living with all types of diabetes and ensure we can continue to deliver on our research and educational commitments.

Sara Blaker, the lucky winner of our draw to win an afternoon tea hamper in the refer a friend competition, said: “Wow that is incredible. I am so pleased we have been able to support a fantastic cause and raise this amount of money. That is wonderful, I had no idea I was going to be put forward in a draw so winning it is even better. Thank you so much. You will certainly be seeing us again next year.”

Kerry Chambers, Community Engagement Fundraiser at DRWF, said: “We are so grateful to everyone who took part in this year’s Diabetes Dawdle. Their incredible support helps us continue funding vital research, education, and wellness programmes that make a real difference for people living with diabetes every day.

“Events like the Dawdle not only raise much-needed funds but also bring our community together in such a positive and inspiring way. Thank you to everyone who joined us, donated, or volunteered – we couldn’t do it without you.”

The 2026 Diabetes Dawdle will take place on Saturday, 26th September. Further information, including registration details, will be available at the DRWF events page from early next year
