Make a difference with your feet to support children, their families and people living with all types of diabetes and ensure we can continue to deliver on our research and educational commitments.

Take a seaside stroll with DRWF this month for our annual Diabetes Dawdle.

This year’s event is scheduled to take place along Southsea seafront on Saturday, 19th September.

Participants meet at the walk starting point at the Still and West pub at Old Portsmouth, with the walk scheduled to take place from 11am.

The walk takes in many sights across the historic Southsea seafront, including the Round Tower, Southsea Castle, South Parade Pier and (on a clear day) fantastic views across the Solent.

For this sponsored walk you can make a difference towards diabetes research with your feet (or paws – as dogs are also welcome).

Pledge to raise £50 as we pledge to support children, young people and their families across the UK living with all types of diabetes and ensure we can continue to deliver on our research and educational commitments.

All walkers will receive a welcome pack, complimentary T-shirt and a walk freebie medal.

When you join our flagship Portsmouth Dawdle on you can choose from our two fully signposted coastal routes of either 4.5 or 7 miles.

Historic seafront walking route

Both 4.5- and 7-mile routes feature a flat and accessible route, that is dog-friendly and suitable for all ages.

Wheelchairs, pushchairs and dogs are welcome on the route.

Parking is available nearby and there are three toilet stops along the route.

In addition, we will have an offer for a discounted ice cream or drink available at the halfway point of the course.

Dawdle remotely – Your route, your, way

If you are not able to get to Portsmouth, we also invite supporters to take part in their own Dawdle at a route and date of their choosing. Let us know what you have planned!

Choose your route, pick your own date(s), gather friends and family and walk up to 10 miles anytime throughout September.

All walkers will receive a welcome pack, complimentary T-shirt, and a finishers medal in the post.

Support our charity goals

By pledging to raise money and taking part help you will help DRWF to fulfil charity goals to support children, young people and their families across the UK living with all types of diabetes and ensure we can continue to deliver on our research and educational commitments.

Kerry Chambers, Community Engagement Fundraiser at DRWF, said: “Your support helps us continue funding vital research, education, and wellness programmes that make a real difference for people living with diabetes every day.

“Events like the Diabetes Dawdle not only raise much-needed funds but also bring our community together in such a positive and inspiring way. Thank you to everyone who joined us, donated, or volunteered – we couldn’t do it without you.”

Last year’s Diabetes Dawdle raised £4,282.51 towards supporting diabetes awareness as more than 70 walkers took part in the annual walk along the historic Southsea seafront.

The 2026 Diabetes Dawdle will take place on Saturday, 19th September.
