DRWF Fundraising: London Marathon runners raising money for DRWF go the distance with record breaking £70,000 sum
A record number of runners took part for DRWF at this year’s London Marathon.
DRWF cheered on at Sunday’s London Marathon as our record number of 20 runners participated in the iconic event – with the £70,000 sum raised marking another record for the books.
The 2026 TCS London Marathon claimed the Guinness World Records title for ‘Largest number of finishers in a marathon’ with a total of 59,830, beating 59,226 set by the TCS New York City marathon in November 2025.
Hundreds of thousands more lined the streets of central London along the 26.2-mile course to show their support for the runners.
The £70,000 raised by DRWF runners at the event represents the largest amount raised at the event for the charity to date – and is set to be our biggest fundraiser of the year, with more money coming in ahead of final confirmation of figures totted up.
DRWF joined many other charities who collectively raised tens of millions of pounds at the event, following last years’ £90 million sum that made it the biggest one-day fundraising event.
Huge thanks and congratulations to the runners who supported DRWF at this years’ London Marathon:

Ben Cloud said: “Massive, massive well done to everyone! That was a big day! What a brilliant atmosphere from start to finish. Thank you DWRF for the organising and arranging.”
Sammy Mckeich said: “Thank you so much for this opportunity! Will never forgot this.”
Sam Watson said: “Congrats to everyone for getting through it on Sunday. The heat really made it even more of a challenge. Grateful for the opportunity to run and raise money for such a great cause.”

Scott Hossack ran the event in support of his son Ethan (10), who is living with type 1 diabetes, said: “What a day! Well done to all of the DRWF runners today. What an experience.”
Kerry Chambers, DRWF Community Engagement Fundraiser, said: “Our runners were nothing short of extraordinary. From months of hard training to crossing that finish line with heart and determination, they’ve shown what community spirit really looks like. We’re so proud and so grateful for every mile ran and every pound raised.”

A sub-two-hour competitive marathon time was also a new world record.
In a record-breaking day there was a new fastest time as Sebastian Sawe of Kenya made history with the first sub-two-hour marathon in a competitive race, with an eye-watering time of one hour 59 minutes 30 seconds.
He was closely followed by marathon debutant Yomif Kejelcha, who became the second man to run under two hours in race conditions, finishing runner-up in 1:59:41.
In the women's event, Tigst Assefa from Ethiopia set a new record time of 2:15.41 to improve on her own world record by nine seconds.
DRWF was delighted to fill our quota of spaces for this year’s event who applied to our fundraising call for runners.
