Series of videos launched to promote annual event that raises funds for both DRWF and participating schools.

School children across the country are rehearsing their routines for what is set to be DRWF’s biggest Dance for Diabetes fundraising event yet.

In four years, our annual Dance for Diabetes event has been extremely successful, raising over £75,000 shared between participating schools and DRWF.

Many Hampshire based schools have participated during this time; sharing more than £30,000 between them as a direct result of our pledge to donate 40p of every £1 raised back to the schools!

Schools receive a host of ready-made classroom resources supported by a step-by-step and simple to follow dance video, choreographed to a well-known pop song by Hampshire-based afterschool provider, FunKidz Dance.

This year’s event sees schools across the country join in the groove – as more than 50 schools are set to take part.

In recent weeks, since the beginning of Summer term, youngsters have been working meticulously on their steps – for the upcoming performance week, from 18th–22nd May.

To prepare schools are instructed to show the choreography video in classes for around 5 minutes, 2–3 times a week to familiarise pupils with the dance, foster pupil togetherness and increase engagement in readiness for a whole school performance and non-school uniform day at the finale.

During this time, pupils take home a pre-packed welcome letter and sponsorship pack allowing them to gain sponsorship for their efforts.

Tim Green, Head of Community Fundraising at DRWF, said: “Now in its fifth year, we are incredibly proud to see Dance for Diabetes once again bringing schools together through movement, fundraising and fun.

“This year, more than 50 schools and around 15,000 primary pupils are taking part, and with one week still to go, they have already raised more than £35,000 with 40% of funds promised back to participating schools.

“We are hugely grateful to every teacher, pupil and parent supporting the event. As we look ahead to 2027, we would love to hear from anyone who would like us to contact their school about getting involved.

“We are also excited to be launching a mini podcast series, sharing more about the dance, the campaign and the impact schools are helping to make.”

To celebrate the start of this year’s event, we have created a series of short and easy-to-digest podcast series designed to help you better understand the event, dispel myths, talk all things diabetes.

In addition, if you are a parent or teacher, we have included instructions how you can take part in Dance for Diabetes in 2027 and beyond.
