A public health awareness talk is running next week at Edinburgh University, where sessions will focus on the impact of diabetes on vital organs such as the brain and kidneys.

Derek Charles Beatty, a long-time supporter of DRWF who attends many of our wellness days, will be speaking at the event.

He will be joined by Dr Christina Gertrude Yap, Associate Professor in Biomedical Sciences at Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia.

The talk “Mother Nature’s gift for maintenance of health and vitality,” will focus on the research project: The Protective Effects of Tocotrienol Rich Fraction (TRF) from Malaysian Palm Oil on the Kidneys and Brain of High Fat Diet  (HFD) induced Type 2 Diabetes in Rat Model.

The talk aims to raise awareness on the biological and psychological implications of diabetes and the potential of natural compounds in public health intervention.

The venue takes place on the 3rd June 2025 from 5:30pm to 9:00pm at 50 George Square (behind McEwan Hall), Edinburgh University. (This location used to be called the Hume Tower) For ticket information to reserve free place please contact Derek Beatty Astonderek@aol.com or astonderek51@gmail.com.

NOTE: DRWF will from time-to-time advise readers of ‘calls to participate’ in diabetes and related health research studies. It should not necessarily be considered that the charity is in any way connected to the study or the group issuing the call for participants. If we are involved in any way, we will make this known. We will only share external calls where we have confirmed that the study holds ethics committee approval, and the study is specific to diabetes and related health. Taking part in a medical research study is a big step and further helpful information can be found via the National Institute for Health and Care Research Clinical Trials Guide.
