The Lived Experiences of South Asian Adults Managing Comorbid Type 2 Diabetes and Depression: A Qualitative Study is led by a trainee researcher at the University of Surrey.

Lead researcher Mory Kakar, Trainee Clinical Psychologist at the University of Surrey, said: “This research explores the lived experiences of South Asian adults managing both type 2 diabetes and depression.

Study

“I am looking to speak with South Asian men and women (aged 18 and above) who are living with type 2 diabetes and have experienced low mood or depression.

“I am carrying out a University of Surrey research study exploring how South Asian individuals understand and manage these conditions and how culture may shape these experiences.

“If you take part, you will be invited to a one-to-one interview (online or in person, depending on what is easiest for you). The conversation will last around 45–60 minutes and as a thank you for your time, you will receive a £10 retail voucher.

“Your insights can help improve understanding and support for South Asian communities living with both diabetes and mental health challenges.”

NOTE: DRWF will from time-to-time advise readers of ‘calls to participate’ in diabetes and related health research studies. It should not necessarily be considered that the charity is in any way connected to the study or the group issuing the call for participants. If we are involved in any way, we will make this known. We will only share external calls where we have confirmed that the study holds ethics committee approval, and the study is specific to diabetes and related health. Taking part in a medical research study is a big step and further helpful information can be found via the National Institute for Health and Care Research Clinical Trials Guide.
