University project looking for people with diabetes to share their experiences.

An undergraduate dissertation research project is asking for people living with diabetes to respond to an online survey to report on their experiences of healthcare provision both digitally and face-to-face.

The study is being conducted by Fiona Sacaj at King’s College London for a study on Experiences on the usage of telemedicine and in-person appointments for the management of diabetes among members within diabetes charities in the UK.

Fiona said: “The purpose of the study is to explore the views/experiences with the use of telemedicine (using technology like phones and laptops to monitor health without the need to attend a GP), and with face-to-face appointments, by asking how your experiences were/are with these type of healthcare deliveries through the completion of a survey.

“Conducting this research will help explore the performance in these healthcare deliveries, find out the common concerns and the overall preference on the type of healthcare delivery. This will hopefully help understand if telemedicine or face to face appointments work better for people with diabetes (either type 1 or type 2) and help provide suggestions on what should be improved for people in the management of their diabetes.

“You are being invited to participate in this study because you are a member of a diabetes charity based in the UK. You must be above the age of 18, diagnosed with either type 1 or type 2 diabetes, and have attended/experienced telemedicine and in-person appointments for the management of your diabetes.”

NOTE: DRWF will from time-to-time advise readers of ‘calls to participate’ in diabetes and related health research studies. It should not necessarily be considered that the charity is in any way connected to the study or the group issuing the call for participants. If we are involved in any way, we will make this known. We will only share external calls where we have confirmed that the study holds ethics committee approval, and the study is specific to diabetes and related health. Taking part in a medical research study is a big step and further helpful information can be found via the National Institute for Health and Care Research Clinical Trials Guide.
