Researchers are looking for people living with type 2 diabetes share their experiences of using digital health tools to manage the condition.

A new study will explore how self-tracking technologies using artificial intelligence (AI) could be designed to improve support for people living with type 2 diabetes and/or hypertension in managing their health and everyday routines.

Researchers from Royal Holloway University of London and looking for people living with type 2 diabetes to share their experiences and perspectives in order to help shape future technologies that are more inclusive, accessible, and responsive to the real needs of patients.

Thiago Carneiro, Principal Investigator for the study, said: “The study aims to better understand the experiences, needs, and challenges faced by underrepresented users using diabetes self-tracking tools such as glucose monitors, mobile apps, and wearable devices.

“Participants will take part in an interview discussing their experiences with self-tracking technologies and how these systems can be improved to become more inclusive and user-friendly.

“We are looking for adults aged 18 or over who have experience managing diabetes type 2 whether using, not using or interested in using self-tracking technologies. Participation is voluntary, and eligible participants will receive a £10 Amazon gift card as a thank-you for their time.”

Study recruitment is open until midday on 15th August.

NOTE: DRWF will from time-to-time advise readers of ‘calls to participate’ in diabetes and related health research studies. It should not necessarily be considered that the charity is in any way connected to the study or the group issuing the call for participants. If we are involved in any way, we will make this known. We will only share external calls where we have confirmed that the study holds ethics committee approval, and the study is specific to diabetes and related health. Taking part in a medical research study is a big step and further helpful information can be found via the National Institute for Health and Care Research Clinical Trials Guide.
