Study recruitment: Have your say on mental health mobile apps for young people with type 1 diabetes and mental health
Volunteers wanted for research into improving mental health of people living with type 1 diabetes using mobile applications.
A student research project is calling for people living with type 1 diabetes to share their experience of using mobile apps.
Researchers hope the findings could help explore how any future apps could effectively address mental health needs of those living with type 1 diabetes.
Researchers said: “We are creating a mobile app designed to support the mental health of adolescents (aged 11-17) living with type 1 diabetes. During this study, you will participate in focus groups and/or surveys to help identify key features, contribute to the design and development of a mobile health app designed to support the mental wellbeing of young people living with type 1 diabetes.”
Researchers would like to recruit young people (aged 11-17), caregivers of young people living with type 1 diabetes and healthcare professionals experienced in type 1 diabetes care to provide input for the study. The first meeting session is planned from late August/early September.
The study is being led by Titouan Cloarec, a PhD student at the University of Warwick.
Titouan said: “For my PhD, we are developing an app/software designed to improve the overall well-being of young people living with type 1 diabetes. This project, will involve various stakeholders who will play an important role in co-designing and developing this app by sharing their experiences and providing insights into how it can better address the needs of young people with type 1 diabetes.”

NOTE: DRWF will from time-to-time advise readers of ‘calls to participate’ in diabetes and related health research studies. It should not necessarily be considered that the charity is in any way connected to the study or the group issuing the call for participants. If we are involved in any way, we will make this known. We will only share external calls where we have confirmed that the study holds ethics committee approval, and the study is specific to diabetes and related health. Taking part in a medical research study is a big step and further helpful information can be found via the National Institute for Health and Care Research Clinical Trials Guide.
