Study recruitment: Researchers investigating living with type 1 diabetes in urban spaces
A student research project is looking for volunteers with autoimmune conditions to share their experiences.
A University of Portsmouth student is looking at the physical and mental challenges faced by people living with autoimmune conditions in urban environments.
To gain insights into the interaction health conditions play in daily life in such settings, volunteers living with type 1 diabetes are being sought to share their experiences.
Lucie Dick, a PhD student at the University of Portsmouth leading the study, said: “The information collected will help inform an inclusive design guide for the use of Built Environment professionals. As a thank you for your time and effort the Leo Lion Foundation are kindly donating shopping vouchers for all participants.”
The study involves watching and asking questions at an online induction presentation. Participants will be asked to document how their health condition interacts with their daily life through taking images over a two-week period.
There will also be a one-to-one interview.

NOTE: DRWF will from time-to-time advise readers of ‘calls to participate’ in diabetes and related health research studies. It should not necessarily be considered that the charity is in any way connected to the study or the group issuing the call for participants. If we are involved in any way, we will make this known. We will only share external calls where we have confirmed that the study holds ethics committee approval, and the study is specific to diabetes and related health. Taking part in a medical research study is a big step and further helpful information can be found via the National Institute for Health and Care Research Clinical Trials Guide.
