Youth group produce educational video to promote better understanding about type 2 diabetes
After a family diagnosis, youngster in London-based group wanted to help provide more information about the condition.
After receiving an award for young people, a member of Bexley Youth Council chose to produce an educational video about type 2 diabetes.
A cousin had recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and did not know much about the condition.
To support others in a similar position the group put the £300 award towards producing a short video to highlight symptoms and more information about how to manage the condition.
Chris Lee, Targeted Youth and Participation Worker, Bexley Youth Council, said: “Over the months we gathered information and spoke to our local diabetes NHS healthcare professionals and organisations, including DRWF, to get their approval and collate information.”
Bexley Youth Council is inclusive and represents all voices of young people living or educated in the Bexley Borough aged 11 to 18.
The BYC works in partnership with a range of services and providers including the community sector to highlight and improve issues impacting young people in Bexley.
The funding came following a grant via the Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme, from the Jack Petchey Foundation, recognising outstanding young people aged 11–25 across London and Essex. Groups on the scheme get to celebrate the achievements of young people and apply for a package of grants, worth up to £6,400 per year, to support their activities.
